Overview
Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) are highly mobile pelagics found across tropical and subtropical oceans. Around Los Cabos, current forage and water matter more than an advertised local average.
Yellowfin may occur across a broad span of the year, with June through November the current local planning emphasis. Individual fish size and distance from port vary considerably.
Large yellowfin may be encountered in fall, but no month, bank or charter can assign a credible percentage to that possibility.
What shapes the search
Surface temperature is only one factor. Forage, current, dolphins, subsurface conditions, fishing pressure and recent fleet observations also shape the search.

Live-bait fishing
Present an appropriate legal bait around confirmed tuna activity with tackle matched to the fish likely to be encountered.
Chunking

Kite fishing
A specialized surface presentation requiring experienced handling and clear space around the boat.
Popper casting
When tuna are feeding at the surface, crews may cast poppers with tackle matched to the expected fish.
Preparing a legal catch
If retaining a legal fish, chill it quickly and use food-safe handling. Raw preparation adds food-safety risk and should be left to qualified processors and kitchens.
Mexico prohibits landing sport catch as fillets. Land legal fish in the required identifiable form, then use a qualified processor and confirm restaurant acceptance and food-safety handling.
