Cabo San Lucas sits at the cape’s southwestern end; Puerto Los Cabos is beside San José del Cabo to the northeast. Travel times to the fishing grounds differ between these ports. Confirm the proposed area and departure marina before arranging your hotel transfer.
The inner and outer Gordo are separate high spots off the San José del Cabo coast. Local boats work the banks and surrounding water for tuna, billfish and other seasonal targets.
Being closer to San José can reduce transit compared with departing Cabo San Lucas. Bait supply, current, shark activity and target size affect the methods and time needed.
Imán, La Fortuna, the 25, San Luis and Vinorama are names you will hear in San José fleet reports. They refer to separate banks and areas of structure, with different travel times from the marina.
Crews may alternate tuna or wahoo presentations with legal bottom fishing. Strong current can make a productive-looking rock pile impractical for vertical fishing.
A Pacific bank associated with bait concentrations and striped-marlin reports, especially in cooler-season fishing. Tuna and other pelagics can also be found in the wider area.
The bank is a starting point for a search, not a permanent aggregation. The actual run may continue past it, while wind and swell can make the return leg more demanding than the outward run.
San Jaime is a separate Pacific bank from Golden Gate. Fleet reports often mention both when describing a wider marlin or tuna search; boats may work the surrounding water rather than sit on the high spot.
Do not read a report’s distance ‘outside San Jaime’ as the distance to the bank itself. Ask where the current bite actually is and how much of your booked day the run will use.
Also written 11:50 in fleet reports, this is local shorthand used for an offshore fishing area. Ask the operator to identify the area on a chart when discussing the trip.
Ask the operator to explain the direction, intended search area and reachable alternatives from your actual marina. Fish move away from named grounds, and chart labels can differ from fleet shorthand.
Finger Bank is beyond the normal range of many Cabo charters. Pisces describes it as 51 miles away and roughly a two-hour outward ride on its standard vessels; those are that operator’s figures, not a promise for every boat.
Arrange the vessel, extra time, fuel charges and sea-state limits before arriving at the dock. Confirm recent catches and a suitable weather window before committing to the extended run.
When comparing runs, ask where the distance starts and whether it is in statute or nautical miles. The useful number for your group is the expected dock-to-dock time—and how much of it you will spend fishing.
The federal government established three five-year fishing-refuge zones in the Boca del Álamo–Punta Pescadero corridor beside El Cardonal, in La Paz municipality. They matter to extended East Cape itineraries, and the rules are not identical.

A ground that is practical from Puerto Los Cabos may be a materially longer run from Cabo San Lucas, and vice versa.
Wind direction, swell period, tropical systems, and visibility can make the nominally short option the wrong option.
