Where to Find Dorado
Dorado are surface-dwelling fish that love structure. In Los Cabos, they’re commonly found:
- Around floating debris: Logs, pallets, and other floating objects attract Dorado
- Near temperature breaks: Where warmer and cooler waters meet
- Around FADs (Fish Aggregating Devices): Many local fishermen set FADs offshore
- On the Pacific side: Especially near the Golden Gate Bank
- At the Gordo Banks: Productive for larger Dorado
Best Techniques for Dorado
Trolling: Skirted lures in green, yellow, and blue combinations work exceptionally well. Troll at 6-8 knots.
Live Bait: Live caballito or mullet presented near floating debris is deadly.
Casting: When you spot a floating mat or debris, cast live bait or artificial lures to the edges.

Beyond their stunning appearance, Dorado are prized for:
- Spectacular fights: They jump repeatedly and run hard
- Excellent eating: Some of the best-tasting fish in the ocean
- Abundance: High catch rates make for exciting days
- Photogenic: Their colors are absolutely stunning when first brought boatside
